Waldhauser won five of his six bouts, losing only to the eventual champion, Folsom’s Jordan Hart. Waldhauser started the
tournament with a technical fall and then a pin, before winning 6-3. Waldhauser then lost 6-0 to Hart before picking up
consecutive pins, including over Casa Roble’s Aaron Pickard to finish in third.
Tillotson placed seventh in the heavyweight division, winning five of his seven matches. Tillotson picked up a pin in his first
match and then earned a 5-3 decision before dropping his first match, 5-2. He then won two more matches in a row, one by
pin and another 4-1, before losing his second match by fall. Tillotson rebounded to win his final match, 2-1.
“I thought they wrestled well,” Oak Ridge coach Rocco Cardinale said of his placewinners. “Joey didn’t wrestle his best in
the final, but he wrestled well to get there. Vince’s only loss was to the winner and Kavon wrestled a lot of matches and
pushed around a lot of weight. He’s looked good lately, and I’ve been impressed with him.”
Greg Barrier didn’t place at 125 pounds, but won four of his six matches. Kyle Sundby won three of his five matches at 140
pounds, while Cameron Miller (103), Brandon Buriani (112), Derek Shupe (130), Desmond Cook (160) and Lukas Wilmore
(171) all went 2-2. Jared Levenson also competed in the tournament at 135 pounds and went 1-2.
Oak Ridge opened the week with a 69-5 win over Vista del Lago on Jan. 21. Zach Marquez (125), Sundby (140), Hugh
Ellerman (145), Alex Diaz (160) and Wilmore (189) all pinned their opponents, while Tillotson won his match, 8-1.
Oak Ridge hosts Union Mine in a dual match on Wednesday and wraps up the regular season at home against Cordova on
Feb. 4. The section duals are slated for Feb. 7 at Rosemont High and Cardinale said he’s not sure whether Dawson or
Rohrer’s knee injuries would be healed by then.
“Our goal is to have them back for the league tournament (Feb. 13),” Cardinale said.
Trojans place 10th at Tim Brown Invitational

Even without three of their top wrestlers, Oak Ridge placed 10th at the Tim Brown Memorial Invitational held at Sacramento
Auditorium on Friday and Saturday.
With Kyle West out sick and Josh Dawson and Nick Rohrer resting injured knees, Oak Ridge received big contributions from
Joey Pacific, Vince Waldhauser and Kavon Tillotson, as all three placed in the top-seven spots of their respective weight
classes.
Pacific finished second at 119 pounds, winning three of four matches. As expected, each match got tougher for Pacific as
he made his way through the bracket, winning his first match by pin and then picking up a pair of decisions, 12-6 and 5-1. In
the finals, Pacific lost to Foothill’s Chase Aura by pin.
